THE 85-year-old was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia aged 26. The condition is a common side effect of radiotherapy but he has been refused a war pension on the grounds he cannot prove he was irradiated. John, of Rochdale, Gtr Manchester, recalls giving multiple blood samples at Christmas Island. But when he asked for copies, the Army told him: “Everything you have received was all that was held in your Army personnel and medical file.”
