It was as an 18-year-old Army driver that Terry saw A-bombs and an H-bomb tested. He said: “I never had to sign in or out of the restricted areas, and was never decontamin­ated. “After one bomb I spent eight days in the sick bay. We were all vomiting and had flu-like symptoms. “I also gave urine samples but my medical records don’t mention it.” Terry, 83, lost all his teeth and had two tumours cut from his chest within a few years of the blasts.
