Nurses plea: Bear with us on strike

- EXCLUSIVE BY MARTIN BAGOT

NURSES have asked the public to “please bear with us” as they strike to help boost staff numbers for safe care.

Royal College of Nursing chief Pat

Cullen has penned an open letter to Mirror readers, below, saying “your support means everything”.

Health Secretary Steve Barclay yesterday said that a meeting with the RCN – which was said to have discussed working conditions but not pay – was “constructive”.

The Government reportedly plans to draft in the Army when the first national nursing strike hits the NHS “within weeks”.

It will affect half of NHS trusts and services in England

PM Rishi Sunak praised the country’s nurses and added: “Unions are asking for a 17% pay rise and most people will recognise that clearly that’s not affordable.

“The Health Secretary will be sitting down with the unions to see how we can resolve this.”
