We’re on the road to ruin

THREE out of five drivers believe the condition of their local roads has deteriorated in the past year.

This is up from 52% in 2020, while only 4% of motorists polled for the RAC said the streets in their area have improved.

The RAC Pothole Index shows drivers are 1.6 times more likely to suffer breakdowns due to damage from roads than in 2006.

Its head of roads policy Nicholas Lyes said this was “an issue that badly needs addressing”.
