Sprout? Yes and turkey’s soared too..

- BY GRAHAM HISCOTT Head of Business

THE cost of a typical Christmas dinner has jumped around 20% since last year, research suggests.

Everything from turkey and potatoes to mustard and horseradish sauce has risen sharply.

The biggest increases are at Waitrose, at just over 28%, and the smallest at Aldi, at around 15%.

Retail consultants Ensono Digital compared items at seven supermarket chains.

It came as families were warned shopping costs will rise by more than £680 on average over the next year with grocery inflation hitting 14.7% last month.

Ensono Digital said households as well as retailers were in for a “tough” time, adding: “This year will be like no other.”
