We’ll see you later, alligator

-

Speaking of jungle pests with unhealthy appetites, I was mesmerised this week by video footage of the moment an intact, fivefoot alligator was removed from the stomach of a dead, 18-foot Burmese python in Florida.

The video, shared on Instagram by scientist Rosie Moore, 26, has had over 10 million views. Apparently, Burmese pythons that have escaped or been dumped by pet owners and pet shops are a growing threat in the Everglades national park.

The pythons are regarded as an invasive species, feeding on or competing with native and endangered animals.

The state of Florida is trying to get rid of the snakes, which can reach 26-foot in length, but antianimal cruelty laws require them to be dispatched humanely.

Perhaps if things don’t work out for Matt in the Australian outback, he could find gainful employment over there once his local constituents deselect him?
