WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Macronutrients and Micronutrients
Macronutrients Macro means large so macronutrients are the main source of nourishment in foods, keeping your body healthy and functioning.
They come from proteins, fats and carbohydrates, which provide your body with energy (calories) and we need large amounts to keep the body working properly.
Macros are typically measured in grams and can be a useful way to track how much you’re eating.
Micronutrients These are found only in traces in particular foods, but they’re essential.
Vitamins and minerals are measured in milligrams, micrograms or International Units.
Compared to macronutrients, your body needs tiny amounts for optimal performance. Although micronutrients don’t provide energy, we need them for digestion, hormone production, brain function and metabolism.
