White out to enjoy good Day
GOLDEN oldie Jimmy White has been handed the lowest possible seed for his first-round opponent at the UK Championship.
The Whirlwind, 60, won four matches to earn his place at the Barbican in York. Now he will play the 16th-ranked Ryan Day tomorrow.
White (above), the oldest pro on tour, is looking to be the oldest to feature in the final stages of a ranking event since Eddie Charlton, who was 63 at the 1993 International Open.
The world No.89, who won the UK title 30 years ago, is happy to be the oldest potter in town. He said: “Years ago, you thought it was a young man’s game.
“But Ronnie O’Sullivan is almost 47 and playing as good as ever. My game is in good condition, I’m working on the mental side. I can be playing and part of my brain says, ‘Did you water the plants before you left home?’.”
