Sunny is all ready to shine

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

IBF FLYWEIGHT king Sunny Edwards claims mandatory challenger Felix Alvarado will not block his dream of becoming a two-weight world champion.

Edwards, 26, plans to step up a division and face WBC super-flyweight title holder Jesse Rodriguez next year, but was ordered to face Alvarado first when WBC flyweight champ Julio Cesar Martinez ducked him.

The unbeaten Croydon fighter (above), who has an 18-0 record, makes the third defence of his crown against the Nicaraguan tonight at Sheffield Arena.

He said: “I’ve become one of the most avoided fighters in world boxing.

“But Felix Alvarado has the courage to face me and that makes him an extremely dangerous opponent.

“I have grand plans to become the undisputed flyweight world champion and then move through the weights.

“I’m totally confident that will happen, but there is no room for error against a fighter of Alvarado’s calibre.”
