Midwives to hold vote on strike action
MIDWIVES have become the latest NHS workers to hold a strike ballot.
The Royal College of Midwives is urging members to follow nurses who have agreed to strike action. The postal ballot closes in Mid-December.
The RCM represents around 30,000 workers.
Members overwhelmingly rejected the Westminster and Welsh Governments’ 4% award.
Dr Suzanne Tyler, of the RCM, said: “This latest award [is] the last straw.”
Members in Scotland back industrial action.
It has been revealed that short-staffed hospitals have to pay agencies up to £2,500 to fill a nursing shift.
Spending on agency staff rose 20% last year to hit £3billion in England.
