Valour and betrayal

-

THIS Remembrance Sunday the nation will come together to pay tribute to past and serving members of the armed forces.

Our veterans served their country with pride but are being ill-served by their country.

As we report today, many face severe hardship. Some have been forced to sell their medals to make ends meet.

Others are “dizzy with hunger” because they cannot afford to eat.

The Royal British Legion reports a 20% increase in applications for cost-of-living grants from former service personnel.

Those who risked their life to protect us should be able to live in dignity and security.

They should not have to rely on handouts to put food on the table and heat their homes.

If they were prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, this Government should be prepared to provide the support they deserve and need.
