Double haul of medieval finds for sale
A MEDIEVAL diamond ring and a silver seal, both found by metal detectorists, are up for auction.
The gold ring, tipped to fetch up to £40,000, was found by David Board, 69, on the land of a dairy farmer he used to work for near Thorncombe, Dorset.
Farmer Patrick Tolley, 64, said: “The fields have been ploughed dozens of times, it’s a surprise it hasn’t been damaged.”
Nigel Mills, of Noonans in Mayfair, Central London, where it will be sold this month, said: “It’s in almost perfect condition.”
The silver seal found by Andrew Phillips, 70, near Offley, Herts, is believed to have belonged to a woman whose family came to England with William the Conqueror.
It could fetch £4,000.
