■ ANDY FARRELL warned that Test caps “are not gimmes” after promoting just two of Ireland’s second team to his team to face Fiji.

Head coach Farrell was underwhelmed by Ireland A’s 47-19 defeat by an All Blacks XV.

So just Munster prop Jeremy Loughman and Ulster back-rower Nick Timoney get the nod in Dublin today, despite a host of stars being injured after last Saturday’s win over world champions South Africa.

Farrell had always planned to retain an experienced core but said: “Test matches are not gimmes. They have to be earned.”
