LAMPARD WILL SHOP AT THE JANUARY SALES

- BY GIDEON BROOKS

FRANK LAMPARD will be forced into the January transfer window by striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury woes.

The 25-year-old, who misses today’s trip to Bournemouth, has rarely been fit this season and, with Richarlison having left for Spurs in the summer, Lampard is short of options up front. “It’s not an easy window in January because, generally, players who are playing well stay where they are and big moves rarely happen,” said Lampard (above).

“But we’ll be looking at how we can help the squad in different ways, maybe with different profiles to what we’ve got at the top end of the pitch.”

Calvert-Lewin, out this weekend because of a hamstring problem, also has shoulder and knee worries, said Lampard. “Dom has had his issues and we are striving to get some consistency and fitness and then form,” he said. “We want to get him fit and get him past that first stage of getting back into the team.

“He can literally take six weeks to get his body in the best condition, like he did in pre-season when he was in amazing nick off the back of America.

“He looked great and was a machine in training but then the injury came out of nowhere.

“I feel for him but in the short term we also have to look at how we can protect that top end of the pitch.”

Today’s game offers Everton a quick chance for revenge. They slumped 4-1 at Bournemouth in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
