CITY ARE LOVE OF PEP’S LIFE

Boss will never have a job for longer than he does at City – and he’s not finished yet

PEP GUARDIOLA admits he will never go on to manage a club for as long as he has done at Manchester City.

Guardiola will have completed seven years in charge of the Blues by the time he finishes his contract in June.

The Spaniard will sit down with club bosses at the end of the season to discuss his future and is expected to sign a new deal.

But whatever happens, Guardiola knows he will never commit himself to another club like he has done to the Premier League champions.

Guardiola, who has won nine major trophies since taking charge in 2016, reckons it would be impossible to replicate what he has in Manchester somewhere else.

He said: “Stay in another place for seven years?

“No, I don’t think so. It is difficult to find what I have here as a manager. To be a manager for long time you need to so supported, although the results help a lot, that is undeniable.

“In this world they sack you. They fire you, we know that.

“But part of that at big clubs is that the success of the manager is also down to the chairman, sporting director especially and all the people here.

“There is stability. This is why I think only in few clubs this can happen.”

Guardiola, whose side host Brentford today, has developed a strong bond with the fans.

This was evident last weekend when he celebrated with them (above) following Erling Haaland’s late winner (below, celebrating with Rodri) to help 10-man City sink Fulham at the Etihad.

He added: “It was a special moment – 10 versus 11 and we scored in the last minute and people were there, they never went home.

“I say to the players to go there and not stay on the pitch at the final whistle for five seconds. We cannot enjoy it only when we lift the trophies. That is ridiculous.

“There are moments in the season, special games you have to share.

“To see the faces of the people is a privilege. But there are moments I want to enjoy it.

“When fans travel to the south of England, come on, go over there and don’t forget the faces when they are clapping.

“Seven seasons here and there are good moments and bad moments we have had together.

“This is part of our lives and you live them.

“We lived through very good things, but whatever happens it is part of the incredible moments

of my life that I’ve seen here.”
