Test heroes: See our pain
HEROES of the Cold War were applauded by veterans at the Cenotaph yesterday, as the Government maintains a 70-year silence on their suffering.
Nuclear test survivors marched with pride on the Plutonium Jubilee, on behalf of 22,000 others who have died or were too ill to attend.
They wore the Missing
Medal, to signify the gong they have been refused.
Terry Quinlan, 83, of West
Malling in Kent, an ex-army driver at Christmas Island, nearly fainted but continued.
Veteran John Morris, 85, of Rochdale, said: “I hope they can see us. We can see them.”
Twelve veterans marched with three wives or widows, 16 children and two grandchildren.
