Old machine a sweet find

-

A SWEET-MAKING machine believed to be the oldest in the world has been discovered at a confectionery firm.

The cast iron humbug maker dates back to 1919 and was found in a store room by staff who make Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls.

Bosses think it has been at the factory in Wigan, Gtr Manchester, since it opened 103 years ago.

Managing director John Winnard said: “Back in the day you could have made a lot of sweets using it.”
