Six feared dead as vintage planes collide in mid-flight

- STEPHEN WHITE

SIX people are feared dead after two vintage Second World War-era planes collided in the air at a show.

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and Bell P-63 Kingcobra – used by the

Soviets in the war – hit each other at a low altitude, breaking one in half. It then burst into flames on the ground.

Chris Kratovil, who was among up to 6,000 spectators near Dallas, Texas, said: “It went from being a fairly excited, energetic crowd to complete silence. A lot of people turned their children away.”

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson called the incident a “terrible tragedy”. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating. s.white@mirror.co.uk @StephenWhite278
