Oh boy, last Buddy poster gets £378k
THE only known poster for the gig Buddy Holly was flying to when he died in a plane crash has sold for a world record £378,000.
The rock’n’roll legend was just 22 when he and fellow stars Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper J P Richardson were killed en route to Minnesota.
The 14in by 22in advert for the Winter Dance Party show was found by a maintenance man who forgot about it in a cupboard for 50 years. At Heritage Auctions in Dallas it eclipsed the £244,000 for a 1966 Beatles Shea Stadium poster.
Heritage’s Pete Howard said: “We are not the least bit surprised, given the importance, the uniqueness and the gravitas of this amazing window card.”
