A country sinking fast

-

It’s a phrase we often hear bandied about these days. But who truly deserves the title of National Treasure? From wildlife presenters (we can all think of one in particular) to much loved comedians, actors, sports stars and even royalty and politicians, who are national really our treasures? Draw of your up a list top 10 and send it to the address on this page or features@mirror.co.uk

■ In recent years we pensioners have seen huge changes which are, frankly, depressing. Crime is soaring, with murders a daily occurrence. Our police forces are poorly led and seeing officers on the beat is a thing of the past. Nor can we take it for granted that our MPs are all trustworthy, and seeing your doctor promptly is no longer possible. I fear for their future in this once great country.

■ I read about a missing South African Boerboel mastiff puppy which had run off when spooked by fireworks (Mirror, Nov 10). I didn’t know the breed so I Googled it and it’s banned in around 10 countries with many citing it “very dangerous”. So why isn’t it illegal to own one here? Sam Johnson Blackpool

■ It beggars belief that Matt Hancock is getting a reported £400,000 on top of his MPs’ salary for going into the jungle when our nurses can’t get a proper pay rise. Pensioners and working-class people are ignored while the Tories look after themselves. A general election can’t come soon enough.
