DAVID ENGLISH, RIP

-

BY DEAN WILSON

DAVID ENGLISH could not have been prouder of his ‘boys’ after they won the World Cup in 2019.

As the backer and organiser of the annual Under-15 Bunbury Festival for the most promising young players in the country since 1987, English (right) had supported 125 international cricketers and more than 1,000 professionals. Ten of the 11 players at Lord’s three years ago had played in his Festival, in addition to great players such as 2005 Ashes heroes Andrew Flintoff, Michael Vaughan and Ian Bell. English raised more than £14million for charity, and as a mark of respect in Melbourne yesterday the England team wore black armbands after his death at the age of 76.
