THE LONG GOODBYE TO JONES
FOR some Championship players, the World Cup break will mean representing their country, rest or recuperation.
For midfielder Jordan Clark and his Luton teammates, it will bring an opportunity to draw personal closure to the Nathan Jones era at Kenilworth Road.
Clark (right) said: “Nathan didn’t speak to us after the Stoke game on Tuesday because he had to shoot down to Southampton.
“But he sent everyone a nice text and said he’s going to ring every single player.
“I’m made up for Nathan. He gave me a chance in the Championship and I’ll be grateful for that for ever. He’ll be missed.
“The new manager will have a good group of lads to work with. We’ll give him 100 percent because there are no egos in this group.” Clark’s shot from distance flicked off team-mate Luke Berry to bring the Hatters a a deserved point.
Life after Jones had started disastrously for Luton when Chiedozie Ogbene’s cross fell for Jamie Lindsay to score after just 55 seconds.
Rotherham were well satisfied with a point to add to their win at Sheffield United in midweek.
Ogbene said: “Obviously we wanted six points this week but four points away from home is very respectable. Any team will take that. It’s been a really good five or six weeks.”
