No checks on loophole

THE Government has admitted in written parliamentary questions that it does not look at how much tax oil and gas giants are avoiding via a loophole in its windfall levy.

Lib Dem Sarah Olney said it was “incompetent they won’t even check how much more is set to be lost” under the “botched” tax. The Treasury said the Energy Profits Levy is “expected to raise £17billion this year”.
