Sunak hits at Putin’s ‘contempt’ for world
RISHI Sunak blasted Vladimir Putin’s “utter contempt” for international law as tensions mounted at the G20 summit over the stray missile in Poland.
The Prime Minister said it is a “worrying time” and attacked Russia’s “grandstanding and hollow excusemaking” on the world stage over Ukraine.
He insisted “none of this would be happening if it weren’t for Russia’s invasion”.
Mr Sunak added: “This is the cruel and unrelenting reality of Putin’s war.
“The challenges we face are utterly political.
“The global economic asphyxiation has been driven by the actions of the one man unwilling to be at this summit – Vladimir Putin.
“There is not a person in the world who hasn’t felt the impact of Putin’s war.
“Economic aftershocks, and his casual disregard for human life, will ripple around the world for years.”
Mr Sunak restated Britain’s support for President Volodymyr Zelensky, and said of the missile crisis: “What we do know as a fact is that over the course of Tuesday, Russia rained down something like 80 missile strikes on the Ukrainian people, on their civilian infrastructure. It is wrong.”
US President Joe Biden also condemned Russia for ramping up its attacks. He called the recent strikes and civilian casualties “totally unconscionable”.
