LAD , 14 , DIES 6 DAYS AFTER HE IS STABBED
Police have made 14 arrests in hunt for schoolboy’s killer
A SCHOOLBOY aged 14 has died six days after he was stabbed during an “altercation” between two groups of people.
Gordon Gault, from Newcastle, died in hospital on Tuesday after being fatally wounded during the incident in the Elswick area of the city at around 6.30pm on Wednesday last week.
Police have arrested a number of teenagers since the stabbing.
Floral tributes were left at the scene of the stabbing after news of Gordon’s death was announced.
Chief Supt Helena Barron said: “This is an absolutely devastating outcome and our thoughts are with Gordon’s family at this awful time.
“Clearly, the last week has been incredibly difficult for Gordon’s family and I would continue to ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to come to terms with what has happened.
“We are determined to find out the full circumstances that led to Gordon’s death. As a force, we are committed to using every single tactic at our disposal in order to identify the perpetrators and ensure effective justice is served.”
She said 14 people had been arrested as part of “extensive inquiries”.
Chief Supt Barron added: “Officers remain in the area as part of the investigation and to offer reassurance to those living nearby.
“At this early stage, we believe all parties involved were known to each other and there is no information to suggest there is a risk to the wider public. I would encourage anybody with concerns to speak to an officer.”
Chi Onwurah, the Labour MP for Newcastle Central, said she was “devastated” to learn of Gordon’s death.
She posted: “My thoughts are with Gordon’s family, friends & everyone affected at this incredibly difficult time.”
