Man changes plea to admit axe murder
A MAN has admitted murdering a mum of two with an axe and burying her body in a makeshift grave.
Andrew Burfield, 51, changed his plea to confess to killing Katie Kenyon, 33.
The court had heard he buried her in a grave he dug a day before killing her in Gisburn Forest, Lancs.
Prosecutors said Burfield was arrested after her disappearance and, at first, denied any involvement.
Later he claimed the axe accidentally hit her in the head as he hurled it at a tree. But a Preston crown court jury heard a postmortem showed she was struck around 12 times.
Police found the body of Katie, from Padiham, near Burnley, on April 29, seven days after her death.
Burfield, of Burnley, is due to be sentenced today.
