Space rock’s secrets out

A METEORITE that fell on the UK last year contained water and amino acids.

Scientists studying it say it is a clue that those essential building blocks for life came from space.

The meteorite, which fell on a Gloucestershire driveway, contains 11% water and 2% carbon.

Dr Natasha Almeida, curator of meteorites at the Natural History Museum and a co-author of the meteorite study, said: “We’re still reeling from our good fortune.”
