Boris paid £275k for US speech

-

FORMER PM Boris Johnson trousered £276,130 for a single speech in the US while the Commons was in session 5,000 miles away.

The Commons register of interests said he devoted eight hours and 30 minutes of work in Colorado Springs.

It also said that “transport and accommodation was also provided for me and two members of staff”.

The MP missed a vote on his National Insurance rise, and PMQs the following day.

In the days before the speech, media mogul Rupert Murdoch also paid £11,559 to fly Mr Johnson to a business meeting in Montana.

Fellow former PM Liz Truss and ex-Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng skipped Jeremy Hunt’s Autumn Statement in the Commons.

Their mini-Budget triggered a spike in mortgage rates as markets lost faith in Britain to pay its debts.
