TV doc’s film targets killers of rare animals
TV doctor Amir Khan today backs a proposed ban on trophy hunting imports to Britain.
The GP, a regular on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, threw his support behind moves to block British tourists bringing home their sick souvenirs.
The wildlife campaigner medic has recorded a film with the Humane Society International/UK explaining why the Government should back a Private Member’s Bill next Friday aiming to outlaw imports.
Dr Khan said: “Like the majority of the British public, I find the concept of trophy hunting – the killing of animals for fun, especially species which are rare or endangered – disgusting.
“We cannot continue to support an industry which profits from the death of rare animals and exploits the natural world.
“That’s why HSI/UK and I are calling on the UK Government to ban the import of hunting trophies and end its involvement in this outdated practice.”
The Daily Mirror is also calling for a ban on the cruel hobby.
Arthur Thomas, of Humane Society International UK, said: “Dr Khan’s film debunks the trophyhunting industry’s absurd claim that it means to protect animals.
“We hope it will help MPs see through the spin and ensure people can no longer bring their grotesque
