RONALDO PALS OFF TO A FLIER
PORTUGAL got their World Cup preparations off to a flier by thrashing Nigeria 4-0 – and they did it without Cristiano Ronaldo. CR7 sat out last night’s friendly, but his Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes scored twice, along with Goncalo Ramos and Joao Mario. The Portuguese open their Group H account against Ghana on Thursday. Ghana beat Switzerland 2-0 thanks to Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo. The Swiss face Cameroon in Group G on Thursday. Spain cruised to a 3-1 victory in Jordan with goals from Ansu Fati, Gavi and Nico Williams. Jordan scored a consolation in injury time through Hamza Al-Dardour. Spain begin their campaign with a Group E match against Costa Rica on Wednesday. Japan lost their friendly 2-1 against Canada. Yuki Soma opened the scoring but Steven Vitoria and Lucas Cavallini replied. Canada start their campaign against Belgium in Group F, also on Wednesday, while Japan play Germany.
