Six arrests in £500k fake jerseys raid
POLICE seized £500,000 of fake football shirts ahead of the World Cup.
Officers and the Intellectual Property Office staged raids across the country – arresting six people and swooping on £12,000 cash.
Police found four tons of fake jerseys in Northampton Leeds, Sheffield and Bristol, and also World Cup badges.
Det Sgt Matthew Hussey, from City of London Police’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit, urged fans to “think twice” about fake goods.
Marcus Evans, of the Intellectual Property Office, added: “As fans get ready to support their team at the World Cup, criminal networks are seeking to exploit their loyalty for their own financial gain.”
