Hero gunner medals sale
THE medals of a Lancaster Bomber rear gunner who flew almost 100 sorties are expected to fetch up to £40,000 at auction.
Warrant Officer Victor Arthur Roe, 21, from Norwich, was killed on his 98th flight over Nazi Germany just weeks before the end of the war.
He earned five medals with the elite Pathfinder Force, despite being taken away from his alcoholic parents as a toddler.
Mark Quayle, of auctioneers Noonans, where they will be sold on December 7, said: “This is a remarkably poignant story and a rare set of medals.”
