It must be a real kick in the teeth to be one of the Strictly contestants who only just missed out on Blackpool.
(Or to use a ballroom term, a kick, ball change in the teeth.)
My sympathy is limited with Tony Adams as, let’s face it, he should have foxtrotted off a while ago, but poor Ellie Simmonds was just a shimmy or two shy of being able to shake her stuff in the ballroom capital.
Bizarrely it’s none of her fellow Strictly contestants who’ll be best placed to understand how it feels to miss out – but a contestant on an altogether different reality show:
Matt Hancock.
For if only he’d held on to his position a little bit longer, he would’ve made the bill at last spring’s Tory Party Conference in Blackpool.
Then, any time he faced a tricky question... He would’ve got to tap-dance around it.
