Shaw seems weird to me

- FROM JOHN CROSS In Doha

LUKE SHAW says it feels strange to be one of the elder statesmen of the England camp.

Manchester United full-back Shaw, 27, was just 18 when he went to his first World Cup in 2014 and then got a record-breaking £30million move to Old Trafford later that summer.

Shaw, talking on the Lions’ Den with M&S Food Live, said: “It is strange to feel like one of the older players because I’ve always felt like I was one of the younger ones in the camp. I still feel young, and I still am quite young, but everyone is so young. But the experience we have in the camp is vital.

“If I can use my experience to help the young players and the new players, then of course I’ll help them in any way.”

Shaw (above) admits that he did not expect the call for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and, even though he did not play, he still learned a lot.

He added: “It was so unexpected. I don’t think I was expecting to go to a World Cup that soon because I don’t think I was that long off making my debut for England and Southampton at the time.

“Of course, I knew I wasn’t going to play, but it was a massive experience for me to be around that squad and get a good taste of what a World Cup was like... it was unbelievable.”
