Rose can blossom

- BY DANNY HALL

THE Betfair Exchange Stayers’ Hurdle (2.25) at Haydock could prove a battle of the outsiders between AILIE ROSE and Gentleman At Arms.

The progressive Irish mare is not just off bottom weight, she will carry two stone less than Run For Oscar, with the able Ben Bromley able to claim his full 7lb allowance.

Yet she ran a cracker behind two of today’s rivals, Good Risk To All and Wholestone, in a strong prep race at Carlisle and Stuart Crawford’s (below) team had a nice double at Down Royal recently. CHEDDLETON has not run over timber for almost three years but he’s a slick jumper, goes well fresh and has won on both starts at Haydock — so look out for him in the Extra Places With Betfair Handicap Hurdle (1.15).

The Arkle Trophy winner Edwardstone has no easy task giving weight away in his first handicap — the Hurst Park Chase at Ascot — as he usually comes on a bundle for his opening run of the season.

Grand Annual third FRERO BANBOU is obviously no mug, had a nice return, behind today’s rival, the unpredictable Thyme White over course and distance, and gets 19lb from the favourite. TODAY’S SELECTIONS Cheddleton (ew)

1.15 Haydock

Ailie Rose (ew)

2.25 Haydock

Frero Banbou

3.15 Ascot
