Prosecutors get ‘cash for honours’ file
EVIDENCE on the “cash-for honours” scandal embroiling the King and his longest-serving aide has been passed by police to the Crown Prosecution Service.
It will reportedly be decided within weeks if charges are to be brought.
The then-Prince of Wales personally presented a CBE to a Saudi businessman in 2016, after donations worth £1.5million to royal causes, in a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace which was not recorded on the Court Circular.
His former valet Michael Fawcett, 59, quit as head of the Prince’s Foundation last year after it was alleged he had helped secure the honour for Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz. The King has denied knowledge of the alleged deal.
