No going soft on Brexit ties with Brussels, insists Sunak
RISHI Sunak has moved to kill off talk he is seeking closer ties with the EU.
The PM ruled out new Brexit measures that would involve Britain following rules from Brussels.
He faces anger from Tories over claims No10 wants a Swiss-style deal, with less trading friction and more migration.
Downing Street said Mr Sunak and Jeremy Hunt were “absolutely” in agreement on Brexit policy amid claims the Chancellor wants a softer position.
A Brexiteer ex-minister said there was a “lot of paranoia” among Leave voters. But at yesterday’s CBI conference in Birmingham, Mr Sunak said: “Brexit can deliver and is already delivering enormous benefits.”
He added: “Under my leadership the United Kingdom will not pursue any relationship with Europe that relies on alignment with EU laws.”
