Handbrake’s sudden stop
THE handbrake is facing the end of the road.
Just 13% of showroom models have a mechanical lever, down from 37% four years ago, research reveals.
The electronic brakes replacing them are safer – but costlier to repair.
The findings were in the Manual Handbrake Report by cargurus.co.uk.
Editor Chris Knapman said the handbrake had been expected to disappear in 2030, adding: “The question now is whether it can even last until then.”
