A COUPLE’S honeymoon was ruined when the bride was rushed to hospital after being stung by one of the world’s most venomous fish.

Amy Thomson, 27, has still not fully recovered two months on from being injured by a stonefish in Mauritius.

She said: “What should have been an amazing honeymoon was spoilt.”

Amy took a dip during a beach barbecue at the end of a snorkelling trip with husband Callum, 37.

As she was putting sea shoes on, an organiser told her she did not need them as there was nothing dangerous in the water.

But she suffered the most “intense” pain of her life when the fish stung her.

The hairdresser, of Lymington, Hants, said: “I came straight back to the shore. My foot had doubled in size. Underneath my foot had gone all blue and white.” She stayed on the trip for another hour and then visited the hotel doctor.

Amy was rushed to hospital over an hour away where she got treatments costing £1,800 including anti-venom, fluids and morphine.

She stayed in the hospital overnight, adding: “The pain lasted until eventually I was put on a drip. I had an incision down my foot where they squeezed venom out.” Amy and Callum continued with their two-week break until September 30.

She is now on antibiotics and has a hospital check-up on Thursday for her weeping toe. Amy said: “On the flight home my foot blew up like a balloon. I am still suffering now. There is no solution for it.”
