JEREMY Paxman plans to do a PhD in Renaissance art after retiring as host of TV’s University Challenge.

The former Newsnight presenter, 72, has filmed his last shows as host of the BBC2 quiz show – after 29 years in the role.

He will be replaced by Amol Rajan, the Beeb’s media editor.

Paxman wrote in Saga Magazine: “I plan to join a choir, take a postgraduate degree and finish the wine appreciation course that I began a year ago.”
