How YOU can end sick trophy hunt souvenirs
READERS are being urged to help ban trophy hunting imports by calling on their MPs to vote for legislation going through Parliament this week.
The Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, which has its second reading on Friday, follows a longrunning Mirror campaign to make it illegal to bring the sick souvenirs to Britain.
Henry Smith, the Tory MP for Crawley, West Sussex, who is introducing the bill, said: “Thanks to the Daily Mirror’s campaign, a ban is backed by the Government... But the hunting lobby won’t go down without a fight.”
The ban was included in the Tories’ 2019 manifesto and hopes were revived with the Queen’s Speech in May when the Government said it was among its priorities. Environment Secretary Therese Coffey is under pressure to back the bill. Eduardo Goncalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, said: “The Daily Mirror has led the way with this campaign – now it’s time for every single reader to contact their MPs and tell them to vote for Henry Smith’s bill.
“We’ve got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to stop these wicked thrillkillers in their tracks.”
