Braverman: No legal path for asylum
SUELLA Braverman has admitted that people from many parts of the world need to arrive in the UK before applying for asylum as there are no legal routes.
The Home Secretary was yesterday challenged by a backbencher at the Home Affairs Committee over how an orphaned African child escaping war could apply from abroad.
She replied: “If you’re able to get to the UK you’re able to put in an application for asylum.”
Tory MP Tim Loughton pointed out this would involve entering the UK illegally – exactly what Ms Braverman wants to stop. She did not respond.
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Alistair Carmichael said: “Never has a Home Secretary been more out of their depth.”
