A NOTORIOUS thug who shot dead a policeman at a traffic stop has been given a second life sentence for attacking a female prison guard.
Former US Marine David Bieber hit Alison Smith with a home-made pronged metal bar at Long Lartin prison in 2017.
Bieber, 58, was serving a minimum of 37 years at the top security jail in Worcestershire for the 2003 murder of West Yorkshire PC Ian Broadhurst.

The drug dealer and steroid addict was convicted of murder and two counts of attempted murder in 2004. A whole-life tariff was cut to 37 years in 2008.
On Tuesday he was found guilty of wounding with intent and possessing an unauthorised weapon. He was given a second life term, with a minimum six years, at Worcester crown court. He will not be eligible for release until his 80s. Bieber faces extradition to the US if he is ever judged safe to be freed.
