The Dandy Prince & the Baga Lady
The lady is for turning... into a drag queen.
Channel 4 has cast RuPaul’s Drag Race star Baga Chipz as the late former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Prince Andrew: The Musical.
Which is quite the casting announcement...
It won’t be the queen’s first stint as the Iron Lady, as Baga gave a memorable impersonation of her during the Snatch Game round of the BBC series in 2019.
She stars with Harry Enfield, who plays another former PM, Tony Blair, in a musical version of the life story of Prince Andrew.
Songs include: I Nailed It – “a high-octane duet set in the aftermath of the Duke’s Newsnight interview” according to producers.
Former Newsnight host Emily Maitlis is played by Emma Sidi, comedian Munya Chawawa portrays Prince Charles while Jenny Bede is Sarah Ferguson.
The play’s creator Kieran Hodgson plays Prince Andrew, singing “rip-roaring” finale You’re Always Gonna Need an Andrew.
“The story of Prince Andrew is tragedy and farce rolled into one, so why not add ‘musical’ for good measure?” jokes Kieran.
“We’ve pulled out all the stops, put every penny on screen and let rip at an institution that would perhaps prefer us to forget about all this. Also, I’m on a trampoline for a bit. Enjoy, world!”
