Pets at Home yesterday revealed profits fell 9.3% to £59.2million for the past six months as it came under pressure from higher freight and energy costs.

The retailer and vet service said owners were buying fewer toys, but still spending on essentials and festive ranges. Chief executive Lyssa McGowan noted “new records for customer numbers in recent months”.
