We might be H2Overdoing water intake
DRINKING two litres of water a day might be too much for our needs.
Because about half of our intake comes from food, scientists estimate we only really need to drink 1.5 to 1.8 litres daily.
Prof John Speakman, of the University of Aberdeen, said: “The actual required water intake is about 3.6 litres per day. A substantial amount of water is provided just by eating.
“This study shows that the common suggestion that we should all be drinking eight glasses [or two litres] of water is probably too high for most people in most situations.”
Those living in hot and humid environments and at high altitudes as well as athletes, pregnant and breastfeeding women need more water.
