4th Tory MP steps down in one week
A RED Wall Tory minister has said she will not stand at the next election, becoming the fourth Conservative in a week to do so.
With the party facing wipeout at the polls, Levelling-up Minister Dehenna Davison, 29, announced she is stepping down.
In a statement yesterday she said she has not “had anything like a normal life for a 20-something”.
She joins ex-Work and Pensions Secretary Chloe Smith, 1922 Committee vice-chair William Wragg, Sir Gary Streeter and veteran backbencher Charles Walker in stepping down.
Tory MPs have until December 5 to announce if they will stand again and party chiefs fear an exodus.
Ms Davison was elected in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, in 2019.
