Soldier guilty of 1988 killing at checkpoint
A FORMER soldier has been found guilty of killing a man at a checkpoint in Northern Ireland in 1988.
Aidan McAnespie, 23, was shot in the back in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.
Ex-Grenadier guardsman David Holden, now 53, admitted firing but said it was an accident because his hands were wet.
A judge in Belfast found him guilty of manslaughter. He will be sentenced later.
Paul Young, of the Northern Ireland Veterans Movement, said he was saddened by the verdict.
A Bill going through Parliament will give immunity to those suspected of killings during the Troubles if they co-operate with a new truth commission.
