Grumble in the jungle? Thursday

-

Chris Moyles, with his oh-sowitty banter, got the heaveho from I’m a Celeb on Thursday – and was rightly miffed to be less popular than Matt Hancock.

It turns out he shouldn’t have expected too warm a welcome from the crew either, as he had apparently given show editors a really tough time these past few weeks

– thanks to his repeated cracks about pal Ant McPartlin’s 2018 drink-driving smash.

(I know – it’s not exactly an obvious comedic set-up, but apparently Chris found a way). However unlike David Walliams’ cruel “joke” about Caroline Flack’s legal troubles – which went out live during the 2020 National Television Awards – Moyles’ alleged teasing about mate Ant’s addictions and alcohol-fuelled crash (fortunately) didn’t make our screens... presumably on grounds of incredibly poor taste.

But it does make you wonder: did anyone else get an unaired serving of Moyles’ near-the-knuckle “banter”? There seemed to be plenty of fodder with this year’s crop of campmates. But then again, maybe some were actually too controversial for jokes? After all...

“A formerly-jailed popstar, a love-rat comic, and a MP whose blunders cost lives walk into a bar...”

...doesn’t exactly lend itself to a feelgood punchline.

Well, unless you’re the one brandishing the said metal pole, of course.

Then it’s rather satisfying.
