OUR GRAVY RAVEY
We love it so much we take it on holiday and pour it over salads
IT may make us a laughing stock but Britons remain obsessed with gravy.
Most fans enjoy it three times a week. They drink it through straws, take it on holiday and even pour it over salad.
And some say they prefer it to a pint of beer or a glass of wine.
A poll of 2,000 adults found that 73% of gravy fanatics typically enjoy it three times a week. A third claimed that they would rather have it than a tipple, and one in five would choose it instead of chocolate.
One in 10 said they “put it on everything”, including pizza and pasta. Other unusual combos include pancakes (6%), cereal (5%), jacket potatoes (9%), hash browns (7%) and rice (7%).
A spokesman for Schwartz, which commissioned the poll to mark the launch of its Signature Gravy, said: “The extent of the nation’s love of gravy goes far beyond traditional combinations.
“People enjoy it with salad and mac, and even take it on holiday.”
Oxford is the gravy capital, with 41% claiming to love it. Manchester (40%) is a close second.
